Jamalyn Nelson - The Garden Sleuth

Hello, My name is Jamalyn and I am The Garden Sleuth™. But my friends call me Jami. There’s nowhere else I would much rather be than outside in my yard. And if you’re here on my website, I think you know what I mean.

A little about me: I graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Landscape Architecture.  After graduating I worked for a retail nursery and learned more about plants in one year than in four years of college. I then began designing landscape plans for new homes all over Houston.  One of my Houston builders moved to Austin and asked me to design the landscapes for his new model home park. Once in Austin, I never left and started my own design/build firm known as Nelson’s Landscape Services. The first year in business, we were landscaping for at least fifteen new home builders all over Austin.  Wow, all that was over 20 years ago.

In 1996 we contracted with Sun City Texas in Georgetown to landscape over 2000 homes and several of their commercial projects. To this day, that was one of my favorite projects. When you visit, look around and admire how beautiful the landscape of the area has grown.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to design projects all over Texas as well as in several other states. My projects have been as small as creating new flower beds for homeowners to large commercial projects with a landscape budget of half a million dollars and more.

I have been a member of the Williamson County Child Welfare Board for over 26 years.  We are all volunteers appointed by the County Commissioners to approve expenditures for the foster children in Williamson County.  We have county money that we must use for the basic needs of the children, like medical and clothing. Then once a year, we have our annual fundraiser to help pay for the extras like summer camps, senior class rings, school program extras, driver's education, and much more.

If I’m not volunteering for the board, working in my own garden, or working on The Garden Sleuth Mysteries next book, then I always love a good book.

I hope you enjoy my new mysteries. I welcome your comments. Like our Facebook page & upload your images & story to share with us what you accomplished. We also have a Pinterest page and will soon be sharing little mini instructional videos on YouTube. So check back often.

See ya out in the garden.
